Yet one survived, virtually untouched. Only a small part of the lot was singed.
Why?
I saw this on a photo discussion page and a lot of people posted messages like "a true miracle" and similar.
How do you know it's a miracle?
Maybe the person who lived in the single surviving house was a rapist who had escaped justice. A pedophile who has gone undiscovered. A murderer who was never caught.
Would it still be a miracle?
What if a heinous person lived in that lone surviving house but several neighbors in the destroyed homes were altruistic, genenerous, kind, virtuously honest people.
Would it still be a miracle?
The dictionary describes a miracle as "an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world surpassing all known human or natural powers that is ascribed to a supernatural or divine cause."
So when good things happen to bad people, why aren't they miracles?
And how can you tell the difference between a miracle and just a coincidence?
I think I'm too cynical to believe in miracles.
