Near the end, I wrote: "Hopefully, Meghan will not be pressured to give up her career. She finds fulfillment through work, but abandoning that could leave her as unhappy and unfulfilled as Grace Kelly was widely reported to be."
Well I spoke too soon.
I saw an article in People magazine after I posted that where it said Markle is leaving the hit show Suits after seven years on the program. She also is retiring from acting.
I hope this was 100 percent her decision and she was not pressured in any way by the palace to do this. The royal family has a shitty record about forcing spouses to conform with certain standards.
The Queen reportedly had no problem that Markle was not British, was divorced, was of mixed race, and has a Jewish father. But did she have a problem with her profession?
Acting was long been considered "improper" and even "immoral" by "the best people." Do they still feel that way? Was that the reason?
The spouse to Eddie Windsor, better known as Prince Edward, was not forced to give up her career in public relations. Eddie himself has worked in the entertainment business, most recently as a producer.
So this might suggest that Markle was not pressured and accepted without limitations. If so, then perhaps she'll be happiest performing the royal functions for which she is giving up acting.
